Leitrim Heritage Youtube Series
The Connecting Through Heritage Youtube series consists of 9 videos covering different Leitrim heritage themes and is kicked off by Ricky Whelan and Annie Birtwhistle exploring the lifestyle of the iconic swift, and why they choose to spend part of their year nesting in towns and villages across the county. Sean Meehan talks us through the different species of bats in the area and what this means for the environment. In ‘The English We Speck in Leitrim’, Seán O Súilleabháin gives his insight into the usage and influences of the Irish language in Leitrim. Ecologist Dr Patrick Crushell introduces the wetlands found in Leitrim and explains their importance for the environment. With a focus on the land, Dr Robert Meehan explores the geological heritage of our county. Dr Ronan Foley brings us to a sweathouse and explains their history and cultural significance and Dr Kieran O'Conor steps further back into the past to talk about the archaeology of Leitrim's Medieval Settlement. Tommy Earley brings us back to the future by explaining the nuances of organic farming on the shore of Lough Allen. And the quirky tradition of Mummers and Wrens gets a good dusting down with Edwina Guckian. Access videos here.
